"Patient 0" in the original analysis was a Canadian(?) flight attendant. But there are alternative theories of exactly when the virus may have arrived. But the prime focus of the research centered on the San Francisco area.

watch the movie "And the band played on" tells the entire story.

Why is the HIV/AIDS epidemic "more destructive than war"

Why is the HIV/AIDS epidemic "more destructive than war"?
Why is the HIV/AIDS epidemic "more destructive than war"? I want to know YOUR opinion on AIDS.

War is human generated HIV/AIDS is nature generatred. Man can "mold" his enviorment, but he cannot control nature.
2 :
There is nothing more destructive than war, and the chaos humans can create. AIDS is a sad part of our modern era, and it runs rampant in many 3rd world countries. However, the senseless killing of innocent people because they believe in a different GOD than you has killed more people than anything on the planet, EVER.
3 :
As long as people keep their legs closed, their wouldnt be a problem. I actually think it is becomning more of an epidemic in western countries as promiscuity is very common. I cant say when those people get HIV they didnt deserve it. The poorer countries with people with HIV cant afford medicine, therefore the infected people are dying and the disease is dying down, elsewhere it is spreading like fire.
4 :
look at africa, haiti.
5 :
Some people describe HIV/Aids as a biological warfare in itself, and they give their own reasons. I think the pandemic is a major threat to mankind as it destroys mankind slowly, softly yet painfully; and once an individual gets it, it spreads quickly. the disadvantage is that there is no negotiation, there's no two ways about it, once you have the virus in your blood, that's it- there's no way you can undo it.
6 :
MY opinion on AIDS? Its very scary. Nuff' said.
7 :
Because you can see war coming. You get an idea that something isn't right, and you run away from it. War is hate. But sex is love. And (for the most part) it's sex that passes on AIDS. You dont enjoy war. But you enjoy sex.

Please could any one help with this question on HIV/AIDS

Please could any one help with this question on HIV/AIDS?
Why is it that people are so scared to go for a HIV/AIDS test?

Because if they don't know for sure, then they can pretend that maybe they don't have it.
2 :
because they are afraid of the social stigma if they are positive.
3 :
they dont want to know.
4 :
AIDS is a disease that is associated with dread, stigma and still a lot of ignorance. The only thing people know is that it could be caused through sexual contact and it has no cure. And often, people think that they might have made a mistake that will ruin their lives. And prefer to be unaware of it, rather than live with a devastating answer.

without an hiv test there is no way you can no for sure. you have to get tested.
2 :
Hi Rajesh, A proper blood test is the only way that you can know if you have HIV/AIDS. If you don't want to do that then you must check if you have the symptoms. If you are in a hurry to get all the information in one place quickly, then I recommend a book called '100 Facts About Aids in India'. Although the book has many India specific references, the general information on HIV/Aids is very good. Some of the information in this guide includes - 1. Basic Information 2. Transmission 3. Testing of HIV & Aids 4. Risk Reduction 5. Diagnosis & Treatment of HIV & Aids 6. HIV & Aids in Children & Youth etc... Link to book website - http://aidsawareness.in
3 :
You need to harden the f*ck up and go to the doctor. There is no other way to tell whether you have HIV. And then you can give yourself a serious kicking for being such an idiot. Next time, stay away from prostitutes, or at least use condoms.
4 :
the only way to know is to get tested. if a blood test is what you are afraid of, do the mouth swab!
5 :
It's ok man, I know how it feels. I hate doctors too, but this is something you have to do for yourself and your safety. I mean, you have to die one day or another, makes no difference, might as well go have it checked up.

Why am I so freaked out about getting HIV/AIDS

Why am I so freaked out about getting HIV/AIDS?
Hi, well here is goes. I'm in Middle School and I learned about HIV/AIDS last year in health class. At first I didn't think anything of it, like it could never happen to me. But then I started freaking out about it, like whenever I see blood I start thinking about getting it and I get scared. I know it's kinda silly, thats what my parents say. I talk to them about it and they say I won't get it, but I'm just always scared and I can't enjoy anything without worrying all the time. I'm also worried that I my family could get it or that people I meet could have it. I know this might make me sound really weird. How do I just try to relax and enjoy life? Please help!

It doesn't sound like you are over reacting to me. If you see blood, don't touch it. HiV is some serious stuff. Whoever is telling you that you will never get it is deceiving you. Anyone can potentially be infected by it.
2 :
Relax, despite how easy they say it is to get, it isn't that easy. Why? Every year there are thousands of needle accidents by medical professionals handling needle that have HIV infected blood on them. Some years there are no cases of new infection from these accidents despite the many exposers to the infected blood. Every year thousands of people have sex with a person who is infected. Most of them still are uninfected. It only takes one case of unprotected sex to be infected by HIV, but it may take a thousand incedents of sex for that one infection to occure. If the above wasn't true, then most people would be infected by HIV by now.
3 :
As long as you practice safe sex when you do start an active sex life you should be fine. Be careful who you do have sex with. You cannot get it by being in contact with people who have it unless you happen to touch an open wound on their body with an open wound on yours. The best way to conquer your fear is to educate yourself about HIV and how one gets it and how to avoid getting it. Knowledge is a powerful tool. Go to the following website and read and get more info....it will help you. http://bbs.thebody.com/index/whatis/children.html http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/default.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV
4 :
If it prevents you doing everyday things then it is a problem, it sounds like you may have OCD. You should speak to your parents again and make sure they understand how much it is affecting you. My fiancee has severe OCD and like you is terrified of contracting HIV. It stops her living everyday life, she is scared to even go out. You should go and speak to your doctor about how you are feeling, and he should be able to help. Good luck. P.S It doesn't make you sound weird, it is actually a very common fear.
5 :
I understand exactly where you're coming from, because I am the same way. The best way to get rid of these fears, especially if they are so intense that they rid you of enjoyment, is to see a therapist. They will not only help you get a handle on your fears, but they will also help you discover what is causing them. Good luck!
6 :
you have to be the same blood type in order to get hiv from infected blood. me being a 0 - would make it easy as 45% of ppl are 0

Know your diseases - where they came from... HIV: Homosexually Injected Virus AIDS: Analy Injected Death Sentance Knowing where they started could have saved your life.

Honestly, I wouldn't have unprotected sex with a person, until we'd both had an updated STD screening. In your hypothetical, though, I would be very, very upset with the person, had they been aware of their condition, and not been honest with me about it. I'm fairly certain there's a precedent for bringing legal action in a situation like this, especially if there were discussions about STDs prior to the sex. However, honestly, I'd probably be too depressed to actually do anything like that. While HIV is no longer the instant death sentence it once was, it's still not a happy thing. It's also become the leading killer of women between ages 18-35 worldwide. Just one more fantastic reason to have the talk prior to having sex, with or without a condom.

Do you mean on whether or not the allow people with HIV/AIDS and STDs? Those are two things they would not be able to know about you (unless you tell them). Those are both private matter between you, your doctor and anyone else you tell. If the colleges did somehow find out, they would not be able to ask you to leave or expel you because that is illegal. As for the drinking and condoms, can't help you there.

You need to contact the local branch of an existing foundation or the Dept of Health. You need written permission to do fund raising. Since you are dealing with school age children you then need a permission slip from the parents of each child participating. Talk to your guidance counselor
