Prepare Build yourself an outline for the film, just like you would when writing a paper or a book. Be sure to include the "purpose" for the film. Let the audience know why you made the film and why you want them to watch. Mess this up and your film will be messed up. Get a crew together that you know you can depend on and has experience with the equipment they will be using. ex. someone to run the camera, someone to handle the audio, someone to work the lighting, and someone to do the interviewing. TV news crews do this type of stuff all the time. Might be worth a trip to your local tv station first. Have them show you how they do it. Content Include what aids is, how it can be contracted and transmitted, how it is evaluated and tested, and how it is treated. Also include the human factor. Maybe follow the life of a student with aids. How does it affect that person's life, friends, family, etc. What do medical professionals think about aids and how do they deal with it. Research Contact several people who deal with aids and get their input: Medical, testing centers, law enforcement and other public contact services. Interview them on camera if they are willing. Be sure your microphone pics up well, and you have good lighting or bring your own lights. Interview hospital workers and those persons affected by aids: the person themselves, the parents, the kids, etc. Schedule Be sure to have a schedule worked out at to who you will be filming and when. Be sure that your crew is also scheduled and available for that time period. Shooting Shoot 10:1 that is, shoot 10 times more video than you think you will use. Believe me, it's much better to have stuff to edit out than to not have enough. You often can't go back to get more later. Also be sure to film plenty of "fill" video, not just people's faces on camera. Quality Be sure the scene is well lighted, the audio is clear and loud enough to be understood [i.e. no background noices like traffic] and be sure the camera is in focus and has the things you want to film be properly framed in the shot. If you film's quality is good, no one will notice. If it is bad, out of focus, can't understand what it being said etc. no one will watch. Prepare Equipment Test film samples to see how your equipment performs before actually going to film and finding something doesn't work right. Be sure batteries are all charged and that you have extension cords and connectors for you lights, a backup mic and batteries for it, spare batteries for the camera, extra video tape, etc. Editing Pinnacle Studio 10 is a great little piece of software for editing a non-professional video. Pinnacle Liquid is a more professional software package. Whatever you use, be sure the computer will run it well, the person editing knows the software well. [Pinnacle is very easy to learn.] Publishing Format Pinnacle will allow you to "print out" the editied video in the form of a computer file, a dvd, a cd, or a vcr tape. If you plan to finalize the video onto film, well then you are beyond my experience. I used to use super 8 way back when, but nothing else. Hope this helps. I'm sure someone else, professional, can give many more good suggestions.

How importnant using protection is and to maybe assume that everyone has it, so kids are that much more careful.
