blood tests :) oh and for std's yes they put the swab up there... but for a woman they do the same thing only it's not painful, i know it's scary to think about that, but if you think you have one, you have to get checked... you dont want some girl tellin everyone you gave her an std. cuz guys rarely have symptoms, but girls have symptoms badly. you really should get checked even if there is a tiny tiny possibility you do have one, always be sure...
2 :
They just take your blood. From your arm or hand. It's rather painless.
3 :
They draw blood and test it.
4 :
Ok, for chylmydia and gonorhea the q-tip where they stick in your penis is an old technique maybe some still practice it but not really much any more, usually for those they they just have you pee in a cup, very simple. For syphilis and hiv and other std's what they usually do is blood tests where they draw blood from you and that can test a number of things depending on the tests they are doing. HIV tests can also be through cheek and other rapid tests but are not always accurate.. For best results on a full screen just go get your blood check and you will know if anything needs to be taken care of. And best of all be careful next time, ok it's easy to make mistakes, hope everything turns out good, best of luck!

What are the HIV/AIDS stats in young adults for 2007

What are the HIV/AIDS stats in young adults for 2007?
To the first answerer: Whoa!!! It's found in people as young as 15--isn't that heartbreaking? To the second answerer--I don't understand how this epidemic has sprung loose like that in Africa and clearly it's starting here. How does something like that get so out of control? Someone suggested that the epidemic in africa was spread intentionally. As inhuman as that sounds--they said that these people were "given" this disease which is why its out of control.

its found in those that are even younger in african countries such as south Africa and Kenya AIDS is killing 60% of the population. Children are becoming orphans because their parents have AIDS and so do they, it is a global problem.

what is the chance of becoming infected with HIV/AIDS if you do not know if you partner is positive or negitiv

what is the chance of becoming infected with HIV/AIDS if you do not know if you partner is positive or negitiv?
(for a white female who is having sex with only heterosexual men)

1 :
chanes are less
2 :
However small the chance is are you willing to risk your life for it? Maybe you should find out for sure first.
3 :
condoms+Other forms of contraceptive/or abstinence=0% chance.
4 :
Pretty small, but why risk it? just don't have sex with any homosexual hemopheliac heroin addicts from Haiti anytime soon.
5 :
You have no way to calculate that unless you know if they're positive or negative. Get tested, stupid.
6 :
Use Condom as protection. Better be safe than sorry. Don't leave it to chances. Be in control. Reduce your risk and cut out unknown circumstances.
7 :
You are in the lowest risk category in the US - hetersexual vaginal intercourse. However, it is still possible to contract the virus if your partner has it. If you don't know he has it... well then we can't really tell you. If he has it and you have unprotected sex, it depends on how far along his virus is. In the first month he contracts the virus, that's when you are most likely to contract it from him. It goes into a mostly latent stage from that point, so you're less likely to get it, though it is still possible. Your best bet would be to use a condom. When used properly, condoms are about 98% effective against the AIDS virus.
8 :
probably 50/50.
9 :
Women just like yourself are diagnosed with HIV everyday and just try to imagine what is going through each and every one of their minds when the doctor tells them that they are HIV positive. Trust me it happens all the time. Eight years ago there were about 16,000 new HIV infections every single day. 80% of these people had no idea at the time of their testing that they had it. 75% of these people did not even have symptoms.
10 :
You should always use a condom with every partner. You don't know who they are sleeping with. Just take care of your own health and be safe---use condoms!
11 :
Anything is a 50/50 chance. you are gambeling with your life.
12 :
ANY unprotected sex is a risk for HIV and other STD infection. Having multiple partners increases risk of HIV infection. Also, it is easier for men who are infected to pass the virus to women or other men during unprotected sex than it is for infected women to pass the virus to men during unprotected sex. Most people who have HIV have no symptoms for several years, and in fact, many STDs do not have symptoms soon after infection. You can not tell that someone is infected just by looking at them. Many cases of HIV infection occur because someone who does not know they are infected passes the virus to other people. The only way to find out if you are infected is to get tested. More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive.
13 :
Your chances are greater than his. If he has had other partners and has never tested for HIV you are at risk. People can be HIV+ for 10-12 years before they have any signs. So every time you have unprotected sex with him you are putting yourself at risk.

I would like to conduct a qualitative study on young African women's beliefs and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS in
the particular African city where I live for journal publication. I am not affliated with any university. Do you have to be affliated with a university to publish an academic journal article?

It helps but it isn't necessary. As long as you have a lead researcher with good credentials and your analysis holds water, you can get published.
2 :
Try Craigs list for a more local group, this board is international. No you dont need to affliated with a college to be published however the majority of them are...good luck!

Why are so many people so ignorant about HIV/AIDS

Why are so many people so ignorant about HIV/AIDS?
I've been reading a lot of the questions on here and trying to answer some of them and I am shocked at how ignorant so many people seem to be. Some of the answers given would mean that nearly everyone in the world has the virus, by now. This isn't the 80s.

1 :
you should better ask the goverment about strategies of prevention..It's a matter of education and will to protect one an other..
2 :
IMPO, a lot of the problem is the strong 'pro-ignorance' presence in local, state, and federal governments. These are folks who believe that giving young people NO information or WRONG information will lead to young people avoiding sex. They must be in a state of willful denial if they can't see that their strategy isn't leading to abstinence at all, it is leading to disease and unwanted pregnancy. I would never never want my child to be a burning building -- but neglecting to teach fire safety is NOT the way to achieve this end.
3 :
I totally agree with you. I have worked with a support network for people with HIV and Hepatitus C, and was continually stunned at the questions I was asked regarding how these viruses are spread. Something in health education has failed. I still here people suggesting it is only Africans and homosexuals who have HIV - nothing could be further from the truth. It is frightening, all we can do is continue to try and enlighten people and make them more aware of the risks.
4 :
Well, mix 1 part hysteria with 1 part denial and what do you get? Then mix in a little bigotry and BAM!
5 :
I think so many people are arrogant about sex, they just believe they're invincible. And what effects society will not effect them, since of course they're care full about who they sleep with. I think people expect someone with AIDS to look a certain way.So if they see a good looking person they must be (clean). DUMB HUH?
6 :
i think that people are so caught up in the moment that they dont think about their future at all including the risks that they take on a daily basis. i believe most people are informed but choose to do whatever they want because "it wont happen to me" syndrome
7 :
In part because it suits certain politically minded individuals in the African and gay communities to spread the idea that AIDS is unrelated to the HIV virus. This is not the case, this virus actively targes and diminishes cells of the immune system, it has been demonstrated over and over again and really not in question any more. Unrelated: solve the commuting problem, google Hallitubes and tell your friends.
8 :
Be causes of ignorance. There should be awakening among the people. The people should be educated through the dailies, magazines, T.V. ,Cinema and Notices, Lectures. etc. The younger generations should be educated about this. It should be taught in all the collages. The Government should take action to prevent, to control the Aids. What all should be done must be done. The Government and the Society have more responsibility to prevent it.
9 :
people are always going to be ignorant to something they don't understand. alot of people think gays and drug addicts only get aids but thats not true look at all the children in africa born with aids and their mothers die before they grow up and are able to take care of themselves, thats what people don't understand. those children arent gay, neither are the innocent women who don't their husbands have given them aids until it's too late.
10 :
This is one of the disease where people have the "It cannot happen to me Syndrome"....Also,because of the social stigma attached to it (am not sure of devolped countries, but am talking about devolping countries),people just dont wanna talk about HIV and hence remain ignorant about the dangers of risky behaviour.
11 :
There is a difference between STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE. IGNORANCE means that you are uneducated about it. STUPIDITY is when you know and chose not to acknowledge it. I would have to say that most people are stupid. I'm sorry but if you were born anytime after 1975 then you should have learned (in school) what the difference between HIV and AIDS is, and the ways that it can be contracted. Not to mention that the virus dies once it's out of the body. SO I am going to say if you are over 30 then you are probably ignorant but any younger than that you are stupid. This shouldn't shock you. I was being very generous when i said 30...that shoulda been 40.

What will happen to those that have HIV AIDS if they were identify to the public?

If I understand your question correctly, I hope nothing would happen. As long as they're not rubbing their blood on anyone they will not spread HIV. Not everyone gets HIV through the stereotypical 80's myth... the 80's were almost twenty years ago! I'm not trying to sound mean, I just feel compassion for people who are living with such a terrible illness.
2 :
nothing they cannot be arrested or attacks due to a illness. Magic Johnson doesn't get jumped formhaong HIV no he's a vetern people respect him. HIV is only blood transmuted you can huge a sweaty HIV person and won't get HIV. Let's hope spciety isn't sterotypical and will accept the person.
3 :
I keep hoping that the education of the HIV/AIDS virus would be getting through to people as to not scare them of the people infected, but unfortunately the world is not perfect, and neither are we. I have a friend who is HIV positive. She received the virus through a blood transfusion after a kidney operation. Though she has been living with this disease (and, I mean living...), there are still people at her church that will not sit next to her. They do not understand the transmission of the disease and that shaking her hand will not cause them to become infected. I continue to hope that people will want to educate themselves on the disease, and that they will no longer be narrow-minded. But, the only thing we can do as individuals is to educate the unknowing individuals and hope for acceptance.
4 :
Ask magic Johnson what happened to him? He owns a burger king in dallas so nothing apparently
5 :
I hope NOTHING happens to them.. they are normal people like everybody else.. I don't see why there should be any hate or disgrace towards them. There is good and bad in all people, of all races, gender, social groups.. but I do know there are many people who are afraid of people with HIV+.. the questions like "will i get HIV bc there spit passed my eye" it's just so weird how people come up with all the scenarios.. May God bless those who are living with HIV.. cuz I am sure it is a hard time... they can't be intimate in ways the average person can, having kids requires taking medication and hope your child don't get the virus, it's very sad..
6 :
First there are confidentiality laws on record so this will not happen. People who are HIV+ have the right to tell who ever they like about their status, and there are laws to protect HIV+ people from discrimination. People who work with HIV+ population are bound by law not to disclose the status of people they know, in fact there are fines and jail time for those who break this law.
