How many people do you know who've contracted HIV/Aids?

I know of 4 people who's living with HIV+ and 1 person I know died from aids a long time ago. I can tell you that i'm disease free. =o)

I know someone who is HIV + I don't know anyone who died from it I don't have HIV/AIDS

I knew one -- may he rest in light perpetual. My old parish also hosted a live in program for homeless victims -- but I didn't really get to know any of them. On the other hand, we raised money for a charity that dealt with HIV infected babies, I met a couple of those. Reyn believeinyou24@yahoo.com

Having done volunteer work with HIV clinics I've known tons of people with it, many who have died and many who have had it now close to 20 years and haven't had any severe health problems. No, I don't have HIV.

I know five people who are HIV positive, and two with full blown AIDS. I've also lost a few friends to it. (before the trolls start, only 3 of them were gay) It's a hard disease, and watching as their bodies turned on them is heartbreaking. Still, they are friends, I have to be there for them no matter how much it hurts. Peace

I know like 5 people with HIV or AIDS. I do not have it.

I know both. I know people who have passed away from symptoms of HIV/AIDS and know people currently living with it. I use to work in the media and had an opportunity to meet Ryan White once prior to his passing. I also did an indepth story on HIV/AIDS. Many of the people I interviewed have now since passed. I had a manager who became a friend that recently died. So, yes, I have had my fair share of exposure to HIV. I am negative and take measures to make sure I stay that way.

As an older gay man, I have lived through the entire span of the AIDS/HIV epidemic. A friend from high school died of AIDS in the mid 80's. Another former lover of mine died of AIDS a few years ago. A fair number of men I know now are living with some level of the disease. I am a strong practioner of safe sex and I have an Aids test ever quarter. I did have a "false positive" test result one time...and it was quite a shock. Even though I am confident in my safe sex practices, it was quite an issue. Waiting for the results of the second test (that gave a negative result) was the longest few days in my life. I do have to say that the counseling I recieved at that time was quite good. The doctor I saw had lots of information available. I am fortunate that I did not need all of that support, but it is good to know that it was available.

I am a medical professional working in a hospital so I ocasionally come in contact with HIV pos patients. I haven't seen any of them die but they are not in very good shape when I get to see them. I have been told that an acquaintance is HIV pos and that his lover/"friend" has died. He is not doing well from what I understand. My former brother-in-law died about ten years ago from AIDS complications. I am HIV neg and hope to remain that way but due to my medical job, I am aware that I am at risk for MRSA, TB, HEP B & C, HIV/AIDS as well as the potential of BIRD FLU. I do my best but providing patient care does put us in the forefront.

Why has the search for the cure of HIV/AIDS reduced

Why has the search for the cure of HIV/AIDS reduced?
Is it because it nomore affects people in the Developed countries? Are the doctors still working on it? Is it lack of funds to continue the search for the cure? Or research doctors think cure is impossible. Does the disease not bother us, since it has shifted away from us?

I once heard that researchers have found the cure for aids. The system makes money from people paying for the drugs used for the treatment. The disease would rather not go away so more people die and more money is made from these drugs. They feel the world is over populated anyway and don't care about the increasing death rate. I don't know how far true that is. If this is true it's a shame indeed.
2 :
I agree with the last awnser, but all the cures have not been approved by the FDA. Also, new conditions spred out like breast cancer, and diabeties.
3 :
HIV/AIDS is not as greatly feared as it was when it was first discovered, because scientists and physicians have learned much more about the virus and its natural history and course of disease progression, as well as finding medicines that make it less of a death sentence and more like a chronic disease. This isn't to suggest the search for a cure has completely stopped; I think the focus has changed somewhat to making it easier to live with HIV/AIDS during the time before a cure is found. Or perhaps we have just not reached a level of understanding or technology that would allow for the development of a cure. People with HIV/AIDS are living longer than they used to, at least in countries where there is access to antiretroviral drugs like AZT and related compounds. Part of the reason, I think, for less research is that much of the scourge of this disease is occurring in developing countries where the cost of new technologies and drugs is prohibitive. (I.e., the overwhelming majority of people infected with HIV/AIDS in places like Subsaharan Africa are far too poor to afford the costs of treatment with antiretrovirals, so they are less likely to receive such treatment.) HIV/AIDS is still a very real threat to certain risk groups, and it is still being spread. Perhaps part of the problem in the US is that it's now so "old hat" (discovered in about 1981) that it's not nearly as frightening generally. This kind of complacency could become a real problem if it results in less attention to prevention; some studies suggest this is already happening among the youngest sexually active generation and among the oldest one. That's one good reason the search for a cure should continue, IMHO.

Why do people with HIV/AIDS get discriminated

Why do people with HIV/AIDS get discriminated?
I hear a lot of the time when people find out that someone has HIV/AIDS they say stuff like "Don't touch me" Even if they know they won't catch it as long as they don't exchange "fluids." Same thing happens with gays

it's called ignorance
2 :
It's the principle of the matter. I agree with you, it's not right but people tend to go overboard. Even though people know the only way they can get is through fluids, they still have that fear of some how getting the virus through touching.
3 :
Fear
4 :
it's ignorance combined with fear and intolerance. it all goes back to the 1980s when aids was just becoming known and there were all kinds of myths circulating. unfortunately, those myths havn't gone away.
5 :
Because there is so much ignorance in the world still regarding HIV its ridiculous.
6 :
The biggest problem is people don't know how to deal with people that are HIV+. So many people have thoughts that were from the 80's when we first found out about HIV. So many people don't have the knowledge of HIV and how you can become infected. When we first heard about HIV in the early 80's it was the gay disease, we all heard about how the gay population was becoming infected, what we didn't hear was about the Haitian injection drug users at the same time. People need to be educated and the myths done away with.
7 :
Fear and ignorance

What is the HIV/AIDS rate in Ukraine

What is the HIV/AIDS rate in Ukraine?
How much people live today with HIV and AIDS in Ukraine? What is the persentage of the population that are HIV positive and have AIDS? Which part of Ukraine have the greatest rates? And why the rate is so high in Ukraine?

About 0.96 percent of Ukrainians, or about 440,000 citizens, were estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS in 2007, up from 1.46 percent of the population in 2005, or 685,600 citizens. The greatest rates are in south of the country (the Odessa region). One of 66 has AIDS.

2 :
I don't know about Ukraine. In the United States, more than 980,000 diagnosed cases of AIDS were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) between 1981 (when the first case was reported) and 2006. The CDC estimates that more than one million people in America may be infected with HIV and that as many as 250,000 of these may not know that they are infected and can pass on the virus to others. The possible answer is that the rate is high in Ukraine is because maybe lack of awareness or unprotected sexual intercourse.
3 :
No, I can not get HIV in this way Take care Jeni
