Why is there an increase in teenage pregnancy HIV/aids despite the introduction of sex education?

Sadly it's because it's in part low self-esteem at that age and feeling peer pressure. Also, most of the time young people (older as well) don't listen to what they don't want to hear or more--to what they think can't possibly happen to them.
2 :
Because in the heat of the moment it seem's people ignore and take the chance just to get a nut.
3 :
Is there an increase? Do you have statistics to back that up? It's hard to answer a question when the question assumes a statement is true without providing the background info.
4 :
i believe that ppl tend to get into sex which they will not mind if the otehr party refuse to use condom when they fail to overcome their desire, emptiness, lonliness.it is important for us to always have a clear mind, coz once u done it- there is no turning back...
5 :
Maybe more reports are being made known rather than the number of pregnancies. Did you know that the abortion rate is DOWN among teens?
6 :
In my own personal experience, I can say that a good reason for this is that some people don't learn until they make the mistake for themselves. I was 15 when I got pregnant with my son, and although I have always considered myself to be intelligent and smart, I didn't think it could happen to me. So, I think many teenage pregnancies are caused by the same thinking, not because of lack of knowledge on the subject.

What are the roadblocks in creating a cure for cancer and HIV/AIDS

What are the roadblocks in creating a cure for cancer and HIV/AIDS?
What is preventing scientists from creating cures for arguably the two biggest diseases today??

in both cases, the disease is rarely the same in two people. In HIV, the virus mutates and changes, and develops resistance to our drugs very quickly. It's hard because the diseases are ever-changing and aren't consistent between patients.
2 :
The problem with the HIV virus is that it mutates so quickly. By the time a a vaccine is created the virus always mutates into a different strain. The medicine then becomes useless because you are only protected against an old strain. So you are still completely vulnerable against the new one. Cancer can already be cured by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However it is difficult to stop cancer occuring in the first place. The problem with cancer is that it is not just a virus or a bacteria which infects your body. Therefore you can not be vacinated against it. Cancer cells occur when your own cells divide, a process called mitosis, but the DNA is miss-copied. This then leaves you with two cells that do not contain your own DNA. These two cells then divide and then they divide creating more and more cancer cells. so the only way you can stop cancer cells occuring would be by stopping your own cells dividing. But then you wouldnt be able to grow and you would die. The only hopes are treating it once you have it. These treatments however are becoming more and more accurate at fighting cancer cells and survival rates are always increasing. I am sorry if that is really hard to understand but it is hard to explain.
3 :
I don't know the exact scientific explanations but basically the diseases are constantly changing and mutating, so it is basically impossible to create ONE medication or one cure that would affect all of the different strains or viruses. They are essentially like very extreme versions of the common cold. There is no cure because there are millions of strains that are always changing. You can get medication to get rid of the symptoms though. I hope I helped! EDIT: This explanation only applies to HIV, I do not know much about cancer.

new info on hiv aids.can this be a step closer to a cure?for the rest of the article go to yahoos home page?
The virus replicates in the lining of the gut and does much of its damage to the immune system there, Satya Dandekar, chairwoman of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of California Davis Health System, and colleagues reported. Writing in the Journal of Virology, Dandekar said the study was the first to explain why the drug cocktails taken by HIV patients so often fail to work completely. "The real battle between the virus and exposed individuals is happening in the gut immediately after viral infection," she said in a statement. "We need to be focusing our efforts on improving treatment of gut mucosa, where massive destruction of immune cells is occurring. Gut-associated lymphoid tissue accounts for 70 percent of the body's immune system. Restoring its function is crucial to ridding the body of the virus." HIV cannot be cured but the drugs, known as highly active antiretroviral therapy, or HAART, can keep the virus under control. At first, doctors had hoped that years of treatment might eventually eradicate the virus, but, 25 years into the epidemic of AIDS, it is clear that cannot happen. That is because the virus can hide out quietly in reservoirs, which include certain immune cells. The gut is clearly important, too, Dandekar's team said. "We found a substantial delay in the time that it takes to restore the gut mucosal immune system in those with chronic infections," Dandekar said. "In these patients the gut is acting as a viral reservoir that keeps us from ridding patients of the virus." The mucosa are the wet tissues that line the nose and throat, the genitals and the inside of the gut. HIV often infects people via the mucosa. Dandekar's team has been studying HIV-infected patients who, even without treatment, have survived more than 10 years with healthy immune systems, including the T-cells that are attacked by the virus. "We looked at their gut lymphoid tissue and did not see loss of T-cells there. This correlated with better clinical outcomes," Dandekar said. So they started the current study, following 10 patients being treated with HAART, taking blood and gut samples before and after three years of treatment. They found evidence of inflammation, which disrupts tissue function, promotes cell death and upsets the normal balance of gut bacteria. Dandekar said these findings suggest anti-inflammatory drugs may help HAART work better.

GREAT. ALL CAUSES NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET, HIV/AIDS IS CERTAINLY NO EXCEPTION. I REMEMBER ACTUP, BUT I AM SURE IF YOU GOOGLE HIV/AIDS ACTIVIST GROUPS YOU WILL GET A SLEW OF ORGANIZATIONS. ATLANTA HAS JUST ADD MORE HOMES TO ITS JERUSALEM HOUSE PROJECT TO PROVIDE SHELTER FOR 250 HIV/AIDS INFECTED OR AFFECTED PEOPLE OF WHICH 100 ARE CHILDREN. SO YES THERE IS GREAT NEED FOR ALL THE HELP YOU CAN GIVE. IF YOU CAN PUBLICLY SPEAK ABOUT THESE THINGS AND ENGAGE OTHERS IN THE CONVERSATIONS TO SHARE VALUABLE INFORMATION THAT IS EXCELLENT.+ THERE IS SO MUCH MISINFORMATION EVEN FROM THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY. THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY USE TO SAY YOU COULDN'T GET HERPES UNLESS YOU HAD AN ACTIVE OUTBREAK NOW THERE IS THE COMPLETE 180 WHICH SAYS YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO SEE IT TO GET IT OR GIVE IT. WE HAVE GOT TO BECOME MORE OPEN AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT SIDS AND STDS. EVEN GROWN 40 50 YEAR OLDS DON'T KNOW THAT A CONDOM DOES NOT STOP THE TRANSMISSION OF ALL STDS AND SIDS. THE SAME HPV INFECTING FEMALE GENTALIA IS CAUSING ORAL CANCERS IN BOTH SEXES FROM ORAL SEX AND OTHER ACTS. GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR ENDEAVORS. PEACE BE WITH YOU.
2 :
What do you mean take a stand? For what? Because you caught a disease as a result of your behaviour? I Dont get the question.
3 :
did you try googling it iam sure they can direct you to a site thatt can help you
4 :
I think it's wonderful of you to want to help make a difference :) I wish I could help you find a group to join however it's going to vary by your location. I would suggest you try using a search engine, like google, to find some support groups in your area. Best wishes.

Did you know that Cheerios are a good source of whole grains?
2 :
sorry to give you a lame answer but no one exactly knows. The antiretroviral drugs available today are very good and although they won't cure HIV or AIDS they do prolong the life of many infected. As for a complete cure, I believe we are very far off.
3 :
It depends. Right now vaccines are in Phase II clinical trials all over the US. Who knows when a cure will be discovered?
4 :
this is just a guess but as far away as cancer. a LOT of doctors are working on it prolly so maybe 15 yearsor less is my estimate
5 :
I think that they probably already have one!!!
6 :
I don't know about that, but I do know that for decades now there have been a few drugs that don't cure HIV or AIDS, but make it so that it's not contagious, so people with AIDS can live normal lives, have sex, have children, and their partners and children won't get AIDS. But this drug is extremely expensive (for no reason other than greed), we could have easily gotten rid of AIDS entirely by now.
7 :
aids are very very bad......................dont do drugs
8 :
never to much money involved

Hun, you can risk getting HIV/AIDS if you have unprotected sex with someone, not by simply visiting.

vitamin c and drinking your owm urine to boost your immune system. your urine is filtered blood made by your kidneys and has trace amounts of viral and bacterial threats to your body. once a small amount has been reintroduced to your system it is like a "flu shot" effect and all but eliminates symtoms of sickness. do a search for "urine therapy " if u dont believe me.
2 :
Don't know how urine therapy is going to help the trasnmission of HIV/AIDS. Boosting the immune system is great but aids is a highly specific virus that attacks T-cells and macrophages. Often times the fetus is taken as a forgeign entity and attacked by the mother's own body. By these very same leukocytes. I don't know how likely it is but I would assume the chance is very high for transmission to occur. We can't even cure AIds at this stage in time. How could we isolate the disease in one area of our body and keep it from others. It's not entirely feasible.

It may be because African American men cheat more than other races, and have more sexual partners, thus putting their "other" woman at higher risk ?
2 :
maybe because they are brought up in the ghettos and where there's a Lot of poverty and they are not very educated about the use of contraceptives and tend to sleep with random men for money !! idk but its very sad and anyone can contract this virus because it has no age, race, face or name so stay safe and make sure to protect yourself !!!:)
3 :
they're the biggest wh0res and s|uts
4 :
Lack of sexual health education.
