Why are HIV/AIDs more common in homosexual couples

Why are HIV/AIDs more common in homosexual couples?
I am looking to have sex with a another woman for the first time, and I was reading articles on safe lesbian sex and a lot of it stressed the risk of HIV/AIDS. I was wondering why HIV/AIDS is more common in homosexual couples. Or is the risk of HIV/AIDS the same regardless of same sex/heterosexual sex?

It is equally as risky to have heterosexual relations as it is to have homosexual ones. Just be safe no matter who you're with, male or female.
2 :
The top high risk activity is penetrative anal sex - very high risk of a small tear, thin membranes and deposition of bodily fluid. All of those raise the infection risk. Lesbian activity kinda misses on those risks so relax.
3 :
My understanding is that anal sex is more likely than vaginal sex to produce little tears or rips in the tissues, and this is how the virus is transmitted.
4 :
The risk is the same, whether the couple is homosexual or heterosexual. Because HIV/AIDS is now a pandemic, not just an epidemic, all literature about sex involves cautions about HIV/AIDS. It was once believed, in the 80s, that HIV/AIDS only appeared in homosexuals, but this theory was proven incorrect a long time ago.

This is a strictly hypothetical HIV/AIDS question, and I need actual answers, please

This is a strictly hypothetical HIV/AIDS question, and I need actual answers, please?
Hypothetically, if you were 14 years old and contracted HIV/AIDS from a blood transfusion or something of that nature, and the disease was caught six months later, how long would that person typically live if they were put on medication?

Potentially 3 or 4 decades would not be an unreasonable expectation- some would last longer, some less time. each person's immune system will be more or less robust and they will be exposed to more, or less, diseases which will eventually overwhelm their immune system. But it should also be remembered that meds are very expensive and that person would be contagious their entire life.

Why are there so many gay men with HIV/AIDS

Why are there so many gay men with HIV/AIDS?
Alot of people say that HIV/AIDS come from gay men. Obviously that's not true, but why are there so many gay men with HIV/AIDS? How can we stop this?

I don't know, but none of my ex boyfriends were HIV positive, and I'm not either.
2 :
The disease was originally designed to cull the monkey population. It is man made. How it got from the monkey population to the human population is something I'm not sure I want to think about. It is true that the disease spread through the gay population fairly quickly. But to say they are to blame is going a little far.... It was man made. Blame the man who made it. And NoHomo - that is true, but there are far far far more heterosexual people in the world than there are homosexual. Percentage wise, it is much higher for the homosexual population (in western countries, of course - in Africa it affects mainly the heterosexual population). We can stop HIV/AIDS spreading through education and contraception, and that is pretty much all we can do until we find a cure.
3 :
its easier for guys to get it from other guys as opposed to guys getting it from a girl. when me have intercourse, it slightly tears the anal tissue and if the other person has it, your pretty much guaranteed to get it. Not trying to offend anyone, i love the gays! :D
4 :
Education and prevention. But there are other groups of people with alarmingly high HIV rates. And in some countries, the disease is spread almost entirely by heterosexual contact. The bottom line is that people should practice safe sex. Regularly.
5 :
why are there so many drug users with aids, why are there some many straight people with aids? do some research, it effects just as many straight people especially in Africa.
6 :
Because you're reading a newspaper from the 70s Gay men didn't know they had to use condoms. Condoms where advertised and taught as protection from pregnancy, not STDs. They thought, 'hey, I can't get a man pregnant!'
7 :
I dont think they get Aids often. However,if they are always putting themselves about you have to wonder if they going to get any STDS.
8 :
they dont wear condoms and they oral is obviously limited to headjobs, handies and anal.. most dont wear condoms coz they feel its different to being with a women and so no one will have it.. coz i mean when yu root a chick yu wear one, but when yu root a guy its different.. you can stop this by tellin all gay people you meet to wear one, maybe makin your own signs to put on poles about gay awareness, go to a gay bar and put the same signs in toilets, ask the managers if they have condom machines and if not suggest they do. or make a petition for the local news paper or news crew or what ever to help raise STD's for gays.
9 :
You're right in saying that it doesn't come from gay men, it's spread by body fluid transfer. It's similar to a disease that monkeys get, but, Lilybelle, I'm not sure of it being manufactured and introduced to control the monkey population, surely there would be easier ways, and was this sort of technology around in the 1970's when it all started? It happens with gay men having unprotected sex, and so it spread quite quickly through the gay population, partly because a proportion of gay men are promiscuous. The only way to guarantee to stop it is to not have sex. Protected sex is a very close second. Hope this helps
10 :
Two reasons, one is definite, the other is a matter of opinion: Definite: - Pregnancy is not a possibility, therefore condoms are less likely to be used. Since the late 1980s, this is less true, as awareness of HIV/AIDS has increased and more precautions are being taken. A matter of opinion (some will argue that this is statistically proven, but I disagree, as many of the studies conducted are prejudiced... but that is another story): - Gay relationships are SAID to be (I repeat, I personally disagree with this) more promiscuous. I.e.: more sex with more people equals more likelihood of contracting HIV. Those are the only two reasons that have been substantiated in studies etc. They both are supported by evidence in trials etc. - however, whether or not one can believe these trials is another matter altogether. Hope this helps.

Can a male though homosexual oral sex get HIV/AIDS from his partner if the semen is injested

Can a male though homosexual oral sex get HIV/AIDS from his partner if the semen is injested?
I know it is possible if your partner is infected, what if niether you, nor your partner has HIV/AIDS? Oral s*x that is.

1 :
Oral sex is not safe if you swallow. you have no idea if your partner was faithful or not. Don't jeopardize your health, my friend. Play safely. I would go get tested in a few months, and again in another few months, for my own peace of mind.
2 :
HIV-AIDS is transferred through all exchange of fluids. If neither of you is infected, then neither of you can get it from the other. Have a test done if you're not sure, but remember it can take months for the infection to show up in the blood.
3 :
ok...listen here. If neither person has HIV/AIDS....YOU CAN'T GET IT! IT DOES NOT MAGICALLY APPEAR! IF YOU OR YOUR PARTNER TURN OUT TO GET IT, IT MEANS THEY GOT IT FROM YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE! HIV TAKES A MINIMUM OF 6 MONTHS FROM THE TIME OF INFECTION TO APPEAR IN A LAB TEST, SO IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE IT, WAIT 6 MONTHS W/O HAVING ANY SEX WHATSOEVER, AND GET TESTED. IT'S NOT A GUARANTEE EVEN AFTER 6 MONTHS...THAT'S WHY HIV/AIDS IS CONSIDERED AN EPIDEMIC.
4 :
Can you get shot with a gun with only one bullet?
5 :
I'm not sure about the ingestion of semen as a way to get infected with the virus, however, I find it highly unlikely as HIV is such a fragile virus. I don't believe that the virus could withstand the attack from the gastric juices in the stomach. However, letting you partner ejaculate in you mouth is not a good idea as you may have cuts or scrapes that you don't know about. This is probably the most likely way that you would get the virus from oral sex. Always take precautions when you have sex with anyone, whether it's with a long term partner or with a one-night stand. The HIV virus can remained undetected for a long time in the body (up to six months) and this poses a risk because you can come up with false negative test results and engage in risky behavior. I cannot reiterate enough---ALWAYS use protection when having sex. Be safe!
6 :
the only way to get hive with oral sex if the one person has an open wound. if the fluid from the other person comes in contact with the person with the wound the the wounded person may become HIV +. HIV is a fragile virus and can not handle an open environment. that is why the risk of HIV infection thru oral sex is very slim.

What are the laws behind professional sports and HIV/AIDS or other blood transferable diseases

What are the laws behind professional sports and HIV/AIDS or other blood transferable diseases?
Are you allowed to play professional sports if you have a disease transferable by blood? How are the medical records released? In a situation of being a pro athlete with a blood transferable disease do they have to give other players acknowledgement of the disease?

Well they let magic johnson play basketball when he was HIV possitive. I guess that it depends on the sport you are playing. In the case of boxing you can not have a contagious blood desease and fight due to the risk of getting cut and the other fighter comming into contact with infected blood. So my best answer is it depends on the sport being played and how healthy the athlete is.

NO

Yes but why would you take that risk?
3 :
No. you'll catch it!
4 :
Read this article: Study: Abstinence, not condoms, led to teen birth drop http://moonsanmyung.blogspot.com/2010/04/study-abstinence-not-condoms-led-to.html
5 :
No The safest sex is masturbation.
6 :
Directly from Wikipedia: The majority of HIV infections are acquired through unprotected sexual relations. Complacency about HIV plays a key role in HIV risk. Sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the genital, oral, or rectal mucous membranes of another. In high-income countries, the risk of female-to-male transmission is 0.04% per act and male-to-female transmission is 0.08% per act. For various reasons, these rates are 4 to 10 times higher in low-income countries. The rate for receptive anal intercourse is much higher, 1.7% per act. (There are footnotes with sources for these numbers). So it's not for sure you'll get it, but it's certainly risky behavior.
7 :
You can also play Russian Roulette with a gun that doesn't have a bullet in every chamber and live a couple of times.....................maybe.
8 :
If you have sex with a condom it is a low risk but if the condom splits you are at high risk. In this instance you can go to the doctor within 72 hours and get PEP drugs which reduce the chances of HIV taking hold, but this is still not 100%.

Do you guys know if there is a cure for HIV AIDS

Cure for HIV AIDS?

HIV is a virus - there is no cure AIDS is the term given for when a patient with HIV presents a number of illnesses (i.e. sore like Karposi's Sarcoma). People without HIV can get these ilnneses, but when a number appear in one person with HIV they are termed AIDS. There is no cure as it is HIV causing the problem
2 :
REALLY THE ONLY THING WOULD BE BLEACH BUT YOU CANT CONSUME THAT SO OTHER THAN THAT NOTHING
3 :
Not currently, but perhaps there will be better living through science? Or, biotechnology... In Germany, doctors have claimed to cure a man of AIDS by treating his concurrent Leukemia with stem cell therapy. Leukemia is best treated by a bone marrow transplant, and the bone marrow used was from a person with a natural immunity to HIV. He has now gone 20 months symptom free. UC Davis is also currently in the process of engineering a patient̢۪s stem cells to mimic a natural resistance to the AIDS virus. Here is a related article:

Cure for HIV and AIDS January 22, 2008: Hulda Regehr Clark tells the microbiological detective story in which some of the best brains in science have been pitted against the most extraordinary bug the world has ever seen. In 1984 it was discovered that HIV was the cause of AIDS. Straight away, there were confident predictions that there would be a vaccine ready for testing in just two years. Back then, just 1,292 deaths from AIDS had been reported. Now the figure is 25 million dead. By 2010 it is predicted there will be 85 million infections and 70 million deaths. And after 20 years there is still no sign of a vaccine. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&ISBN=9781890035020&ourl=The%2DCure%2Dfor%2DHIV%2Dand%2DAIDS%2FHulda%2DRegehr%2DClark

7 :
No, there is no cure. I hope someday a cure is found though, because this is one of the most deadly diseases out there.
