Begging funds from the US and United Nations to spend on changing names of towns and advertising on TV and political speeches! All contraceptives end up in trash cans due to tribal traditions. Use the Public Health degree rather to promote prevention of TB and Political Science to get the Nigerians and Zimbabwe citizens to their home countries.

You're obviously behind the times. The South African Minister of health, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, has discovered that liberal doses of beetroot and garlic, used in conjunction with vitamins, is the cure for AIDS. Google it.

I dont think any of us know the government keeps on telling us that they do have a plan in action but yet no one knows what the plan is. Maybe the are putting up bill boards in the townships reading "Put a jacket on your willing" or "You are positive untill tested negative" or "Dont sleep around" No where they tell people to start having respect for them self and not to have sex Oh, well dont think there is anyhting we can do to help them see the light

They have a campaign called "Love life" they go to schools universities, churches etr places were the are young people to educate them about aids, They also have bill boards and TV adverts, books and even a toll free number to call etr. But the problem is that South Africans never listen. And our media bashes on about anti-retrovirals as if they are the solution to everything they don't even educate the people about the side effects those drugs have. They are just interested on blaming ministers of health for everything instated of playing their part in shifting mindsets. Let the truth be told they are doing a lot its just that people don't listen. Maybe if you have a solution share it with us.

Firstly you need to get a handle on the political aspects of the AIDS pandemic in South Africa and appreciate that South Africa has a denialist President and a Health Minister who was ridiculed at the Toronto Aids Conference last year for promoting garlic and beetroot as a treatment programme. As for Mbeki ( the President) some of his more infamous statements are " How can a virus cause a disease" and " I have never known anyone who has died of AIDS." As a result South Africa has continuously paid only lip service to the distribution of ARV's and opposed Court Orders where they have been instructed to commence distribution. Another factor is that AIDS is not a reportable disease and Medical Practitioners are " dissuaded" from putting this as a cause of death on death certificates. ( Currently the Head of Medical Services in the OFS has been suspended from duty for doing so on the premise that his conduct is "unethical" ). Currently there is some roll out of ARV's but not enough to meet the demand and the bottom line is there are more new infections every day than there are people on treatment. There is also a distribution of free condoms but these have been found to be of inferior quality and a so called education programme. There are plenty of plans, promises and Committees but the truth is that the ANC are not interested in those dying from AIDS and view any investment in ARV's as a waste of money. Only if the West or Drug Manufacturers step in with an offer of free treatment will there be any progress as depending on the ANC or its Health Facilities is a death sentence.

Well, we've been inspired to take showers after sex and to overeat on garlic. Most money is spent on changing the names of towns and paying salaries to the clowns in the parliament. IM SURE YOU HAVE A BETTER HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS THAN ALL OF THE CLOWNS TOGETHER. WE NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!

Hey, congrats on the "dual degree"! The South African government has found that the best weapon in the fight against AIDS is denial, after implementing brilliant ideas such as recommending garlic and beetroot as a cure for the disease and actually STAPLING condoms to anti- AIDS pamphlets!

O course! South Africa has been giving Beetroot and Garlic to Aids sufferers for a long time! Our leaders are not idiots here you know.
